First came Blue Diamond E. This was the beginning of a great love affair with the Texas Longhorn breed for Ken and Cindy Ellis. They were living in Granbury, TX (just south of Fort Worth) and rented 25 acres from Cindy's boss to house their small herd.
After moving their small but lively registered Texas Longhorn herd to the wilds of Idaho in 2001, they combined the Longhorns with Larry & Jane Johnson's (Cindy's parents') livestock and created a new company named J&E Cattle Company, LLC. Larry & Jane had raised Herefords & crosses since 1976 on their ranch and were thrilled to have some Longhorns join their herd.
J&E Cattle Company produces fine registered Texas Longhorns as well as healthy and beautiful Longhorn/Hereford crosses. They are crossing these breeds to get a marketable beef product that will be much healthier for the consumer. Tasting is believing!
Paula & Philip Palmer became partners in J&E Cattle Company, LLC, in 2004, after we lost our Mom following a long & courageous fight against breast cancer. We're excited to have them onboard.
Update: The past two winters have been hard and cold with lots of snow in the Palouse region. Our longhorns did not fare well and we lost several of our core breeding cows. We have also had several medical issues among our owners so we came to the very hard decision to end our great Longhorn adventure. We put all of our beautiful Longhorns up for sale. Today, June 7, 2009, the Rocking M Cattle Company from Wallowa, Oregon purchased every Longhorn on the place. Thank you so much for giving our animals such a wonderful new home.
We have truly enjoyed being involved with this wonderful breed. We will always love them and be one of their biggest advocates. Thanks to all of our past clients and all of Longhorn friends. We have made somegreat friendships through the years.

At the barn this winter - and this was before the BIG storm!
