Memorial to My Dad

Young Larry.

On July 16, 2015, my father, Larry M. Johnson of Potlatch, ID passed away at home. He had been ill since June 30th with aspiration pneumonia and was hospitalized until July 14th. On that day he was discharged from Pullman Regional Hospital to go home with the care of Hospice and his three caregivers (who lovingly agreed to each take 8 hour shifts every day). The previous year Dad had suffered a stroke that affected his speech, walking, and writing (right side). For his own reasons, he did not want me contacted at that time. We did not communicate for nearly a year. In 2015, just before Lent began, we reconciled and began a wonderful period of family, love, and celebration. His 80th birthday party was spectacular and I was so thankful to be invited and welcomed. For the next several months we visited him at least once a week and called at least once a week to make sure he was doing well. It was a very special period and no one or nothing can ever take that away from me. I miss you, Dad and pray that you and Mom are dancing together in heaven.

I wish to thank my Aunt Betty (dad's sister) and Uncle LeRoy (dad's brother) for taking such good care of him! And I want to doubly thank my cousin, Valerie, for absolutely everything she did for dad. You were his confidante, his advocate, and his supporter. Also a huge thank you to Val's daughter, Christin - the love you shared with your great-Uncle Larry was amazing to see and a blessing to him as well as the entire family.
