| We now have a total of eleven (11) pure Texas Longhorns and about the same of Herefords & crosses pastured on about 22 acres of prime Idaho valley land. We are situated just east of Potlatch, Idaho (approximately 75 miles south of Coeur d’Alene, ID). We find the ranch living to be awesome - clean air, clean living, and hard work is a great combination!
We got hooked on Longhorns in September 2000 when we visited Charlene Semkin at her Oklahoma ranch near Perry. Our initial intentions included getting some good sound advice from a seasoned veteran and observing these awesome creatures up-close and personal.
That was the day that changed our lives forever. We saw so many Texas Longhorns that day. We spent nearly 4 hours in the various pastures with them. We say huge bulls with 70”+ horns walk up to us and eat out of our hands. These gentle giants won our hearts as well as our respect. These animals possess the gentlest dispositions but their horns can be lethal weapons - something newbies must remember. The animals are not aggressive with their horns unless threatened but their horns can be dangerous nonetheless.
We’ve learned a lot of things from Charlene since that fateful day in September but the one that I remember the most is - if you can’t turn your back on an animal in your pasture because he or she has an ugly disposition - just put 'em in the freezer. Don’t pass that sort of disposition on to someone else by selling or to another generation of Longhorns by allowing him or her to breed.
Our goal is to pass on some of the advice and words of wisdom that we’ve received from other Longhorn breeders and enthusiasts. So check our site often and we’ll learn from each other.
